Why I Love Internet Shopping
I've needed a new suitcase for a long time. Now that you can't carryon liquids, checking a bag has almost become a necessity for a trip of any length (thank God I can still carry on breast milk, though...that's a joke people!). My old suitcase was not really designed to withstand the baggage goons, so I decided to finally go out and get a real suitcase.
I'm not going to bag (har) on my old suitcase too much because it was a gift from my grandmother, but it was pretty ugly. As you can see below it was starting to really take a beating. I did get a lot of use out of it though.
I knew I wanted a hard-sided case for checked luggage. It's kind of hard to find anyone who sells hardside cases in stores. The first place I went was the Infranets, and I found some pretty affordable stuff. I felt like I wanted to actually see some in person though because I wanted to make sure I get something that lasts. We have a Samsonite outlet here, so I went there to try and figure out what size, model, etc. If they had good prices I would have bought from them too. One thing that threw me is that the model names were different between the actual store and the online store. I guess they're trying to discourage people from saving money?
I decided on a size and build quality, but the best the store could do was $250. With tax that would have been $270.63. I found one online that looked identical, but it did have a different model name. Online price: $166.90 with free shipping. I took a chance and ordered the online item. I was happy to find that it was identical to the one I saw in the store. Net savings? $103.73! I loves the Infranets. I get to try out my new suitcase next week...
You can't really tell from this picture, but this thing is huge! It's a 30 incher.

I'm so glad to finally be graduating to the world of wheeled luggage.

Where are you traveling by plane next week? Did I miss that post? We always buy luggage online. - We have quite an array of luggage, but my husband likes to have a variety to choose from when he travels for business, depending on where he's going and for how long. I hate the new travel rules - it freaks me out to have to pack toiletries in checked luggage but I'm not about to settle with those crappy 3oz. size bottles either so I bring the essentials (and a change of clothes on board) and that's it.
Your hand pimple is probably a cyst - I'm glad it's going down.
Members Only? That's awesome. Who knew they made luggage?
My only advice on the 30" hardcase suitcase is be careful how much you pack in it. I used to have one like that, and I got hammered with the extra $25 fee every time I used it for a long trip b/c it exceeded the new airline weight limit (devised no doubt as an airline cost saving measure as they go bankrupt). I actually downsized to a smaller bag b/c I had so much trouble staying within the limit w/a bag that big!
I need just A suitcase - period. I've been borrowing Ali's for years. I love intranets shopping too.
First butt, then hand pimple. Next it will be a buttpimple!!!
I had more to say on the type of suitcase I want, but Faith has disappeared again.
See, I told everyone - 3 readers.
kiki - You didn't miss anything. I'm building up to my trip reveal, you know, a little dramatic tension for the ol' bloggerino.
ct - that's a great point, and one that did cross my mind when I saw how gargantuan this thing is (I swear it seemed smaller in the store!). It seems like it would definitely be easy to overload it, I'll have to remember that. Maybe I should get a scale!
h - I thought it was "bottom" we don't say "butt". There will be no buttpimple. Or bottompimple.
You could toke around a dead body in that big honkin' suitcase!
and you were wrong...you have four readers!
ok where are you going without the members only baggage. you must be going on some big fancy holiday.
hmmmm...where would jc go?
I like blackie the hardtop case.
"he totes his members only baggage cause he thinks it turns on all the ladies..." okay, so the hard shell is nice. but i don't think sheryl crow will be writing songs about it. great deal though! you're so smart to buy luggage online!
