Rain, Rain, Don't Go Away
I'm so thankful that it has rained here twice in the last week. We are in a pretty severe drought situation, about 14 inches under the normal rainfall for all of last year. It was the 5th driest year on record at DFW. Last Sunday I got about an inch of rain in my backyard, and today ought to be pretty close to that (update: 1.9 inches!). It only rained once here in November and once in December, and both of those were less than half an inch. When I was running on Friday, I saw one of the houses in the neighborhood had run a hose to a sprinkler that was sitting on their roof. At first I thought that was overkill, but the more I thought about it I realized that there is no reason the field behind my street couldn't catch on fire. That would be bad. I love waking up to rain in the morning, which was the case today.
I got my application for grad school mailed in. I struggled a little with the essay, and I didn't think it was all that good, but I'm not too worried about it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking it will be more important that they get the money I will be paying them. Pftz.
I think I have my running groove back. The last two weeks I have been able to do my 5 miles without stopping. Woo-hoo!

I love the rain too. (Except when I am having a bad ass hair day and I have to go out in it.) I find nothing more soothing that listening to the rain and just laying in bed.
I am sure your essay is the bomb!
PS- What does pftz mean? I keep wondering this. I wanted to use this in an IM the other day and then I realized I don't know what it means. LOL.
Karen is correct about the pftz. I totally stole it from Holli, but I prefer to think of it as a tribute or homage.
I agree with Karen.. dogs ruin rain for you, especially if you don't have a back yard.
Baylor - I know you've heard the "pftz" in action. I do it all the time.. I can't help it. It's very professional and that's my usual demeanor. PFTZ!!
Congrats on the application and on getting your running groove back. I'm working on my running groove right now and it isn't going so well. Argghhhh.
I love the rain, it sounds very cool in our 3rd floor bedroom, on the roof.
When I was fretting about whether I'd get into acupuncture school, husbando always reminded me that they wanted our money and that is that.
Ugh. My folks live in Lubbock, who are now in the midst of a record breaking drought.
We've had a lot of rain up here & I'd be tempted to gripe about it but my daddy might kick my ass!
If you ever need help with essays, I'm a great editor. My husband & mom are both doing Masters right now & I help them with papers (Mom by email). I'm happy to help! Be warned though, I'm known as the grammar Nazi and I can be merciless.
Even the Uk is short on rain.
But given the choice I would rather it rained in the night. 12 long haired paws + rain = loads of floor mopping
