Day Late And A Dollar Short

I know it's a day late, but I didn't get around to baking my owl cookies until tonight. These don't exactly fit my new diet, but it just wouldn't be Halloween without them, and I'm giving a bunch of them away. Happy Halloween!

Oh those are so adorable!! How did you get their faces to be lighter than the borders? One cookie never hurt anyone.

Thanks everybody! I love these cookies. My mom has been making them for almost 40 years. She found the recipe in the newspaper of the town where she and my dad were living right after they got married. The funny thing about the cashews this year was that I am too poor to buy whole cashews, so I bought halves and pieces and improvised.

Anna, the different colors come from dividing the dough and adding chocolate to one half. You make a cylindrical roll out of the non-chocolate part and a square out of the chocolate part and then wrap the square around the cylinder. The cookies are sliced from the finished roll.

I posted the recipe here.

Those are the cutest craziest owls I have ever seen. With your permission I want to send this page and the recipe to Ms Sedaris. This is about the cutest thing. Have I repeated myself here?
