SPC - What I Wear 2

This month's Self Portrait Challenge is "What I Wear". This photo is of the only piece of jewelry that I wear, my college ring. At lots of schools I don't think rings are that popular, but they are at this one. Just about everybody gets one - both men and women (although I actually work with someone who went there and doesn't wear one, which is pretty unusual). It is kind of cool to run into someone else wearing one because you already have something in common. This school is very steeped in tradition, and the ring is one of them. You can read more about it here.

Here's a closeup that shows some of the detail:

Thats a really cool thing to be a part of. Its like a secret society of college goers...ok, that made no sense...maybe I should refrain from commenting until after I have my diet coke. :-)

Look at us guys showing off our jewelry! Interesting about the tradition of college class rings there.

OK. Tell the truth. Did you dunk your ring?

It's neat. I have never heard of this A&M tradition. The ring looks rather imposing. Very mafia don-like.

I have a school ring from college. A college most people have never heard of. I love it! (yours, I mean...I love my ring too, but yours is awesome)

b - my first exposure to A&M was the vet for my childhood dog. It's a great vet school. Funny thing is I actually wanted to go to UT when I was in high school, but when A&M offered a scholarship that sealed the deal. I really loved it though.

rb - no, that makes sense. It is kind of like an exclusive club. With about a million members!

js - I think a lot of those traditions came from A&M originally being an all-male military school.

a - I love that you asked that! As a matter of fact, yes I did. At the Dixie Chicken. In fact, I still have the pitcher that I dunked it in. I'm currently pouring my iced coffee from it every weekday morning! Since I was class of 94 I was supposed to down the pitcher in 94 seconds. I may be many things, but a fast drinker is not one of them. I don't even know if I could drink a pitcher of water in 94 seconds! So I didn't finish in 94 seconds, but I did finish!

v - you're not the first person to equate A&M with a cult! I drank the Kool Aid.

stepping - thank you! Is yours from Harvey Mudd University?

I cannot believe you dunked your ring.

It's pretty cool you went to a university with such a class ring tradition.

I love that you love your college enough to wear such a cool piece of jewellery associated with it. I wouldn't even wear a piece of clothing associated with my university! But then again, students over here identify less with their schools anyway.

The ring is interesting but dont they call that hand position "the shocker"? Just wondering.

OMG, that is the shocker! Total coincidence, I swear! Especially since I didn't know what the shocker was until I looked it up just now. I won't ask how you knew that!

It is a very nice ring. How great that so many alumni enjoy wearing their rings.
