SPC - Street Photography #3

I really wanted to hate this month's theme, which is street photography. In fact, I thought I was just going to skip this month altogether as a protest. How can someone do real "street photography" as a self-portrait? Street photography is spontaneous, anonymous, "real". But as I looked at some of the photos that other people have taken, I've noticed that even if they aren't exactly really spontaneous, some of them are still really interesting, and despite being "staged" some of them also create a pretty reasonable facsimile of the real thing. So I decided to give it a shot (hardy har har). And as I was taking pictures from different angles and viewpoints, I found myself having fun. That's all the reason I need right there.

This is me on the streets of the town where I live. It's a typical downtown for a county seat in Texas, with a courthouse surrounded by a square of buildings. The courthouse here is pretty pedestrian and uninteresting in architecture, but there are some interesting old buildings around it.

I really like this shot - it captures what a small town looks like to me and I like that you shot in black and white.

You captured the small town feel perfectly, and I like that your face is just ever-so-slightly blurred from the motion of moving toward the camera.

Cool shot. You really did manage to capture a non-posed feel on this one.

And, yeah, the HAMM's sign with the happy sunshine flag below it is a little disturbing for some reason.

Ok I have to agree with everyone-the Hamms sign is kind of weird and funny.

This picture makes me want to sing high plains drifter. You're walking like a sheriff.

You're strutting! That's a strut.

It doesn't look posed at all, I don't think. I like that you captured both stillness and motion in that shot. It's very neat.

I can't place where you are for the life of me!! Where is it? You would have to give me an idea based on restaurants.

I love the shot. Most excellent.

i've not been so inspired with this challenge. i took some photos of me against a brick wall (my house) yesterday, so i might use one as a "street scene."

oh, i saw a bob white the other day. my first. it was in a cemetery, of all places.

i've not searched for any birding blogs, but i bet they're out there. maybe it's best that i not know. you know?

do you keep a list, a life list of birds you've seen/identified? sorry to get so off topic, but i'm still thinking of the mockingbird in your other post. darn mockingbirds!

This could be anywhere... it reminds me of downtown Michigan where my grandparents live, quiet and desolate.

I understand your sentiments about this month's self portrait challenge. But having fun and being challenged is the point, so there you are!
