SPC - Food and Me 1

This month's theme at Self Portrait Challenge is (you're going to like this one, Anna) "Food and Me".

This photo actually ties in nicely with the meme that I just did. This is a photo of me getting ready to prepare some good ol' boxed macaroni & cheese. I don't like that I eat this stuff. I think it represents a lot of things that are wrong with what many of us eat today. It's mass-produced crap of marginal nutritional value that probably shouldn't be eaten by anyone over the age of 10. So why do I eat it? It's convenient and it's cheap. The convenience factor makes this a frequent Monday night meal. There's nothing that most people want to do less after getting home from a long day of turning big rocks into little rocks than cook dinner. I'm no exception, and something easy like this helps me ease into the work week. For what it's worth I did pair this with a salad, and had some strawberries for dessert.

i LOVE maccaroni and cheese. i've recently discovered a store that sells US groceries only (lucky me!), and the next time i go there (soon!) i might just get some boxes.

i hear you on not being in the mood to cook a three-course meal when coming home after a long day of school/work. i'm a lazy cook. anything pasta goes.

i like mac and cheese too. i don't really eat a full bowl of it anymore, but take bites from my kid's bowl. although all the bites i do take probably equal the same.

JC - don't feel bad....no...really! Tons of people eat this stuff...my grandkids eat it all of the time. They love it....ask for it alot.

I personally love the real stuff....you know...homemade with the extra sharp cheddar cheese? I make it about once a year because around the holidays my family always ask me to.

Ok is it bad my son already loves bunny mac and cheese. it's in the healthy aisle. I used to make kraft until joined the campaign of KRAFTED foods.I still love the real deal but agree with you on a hard day at work.

Nice kitcheware!

My mom always made homemade mac and chz and I always craved the boxed stuff. Of course. I still like it and I'm not apologizing for it. :) I also liked the homemade stuff now that I'm older. I've actually found that I like the mac and chz they make that's shaped like something (like Shrek or Spiderman) better. It has more of a tooth to the pasta. Can you believe that I have refined tastes about mac and chz!? :) Makes me smile.

Like I have told you before mac n cheese is one of my all time favs, and I am sure I will love it forever. It is soft and pallatable so it will carry me in the winter of my life.

I love it! It's a beautiful shot - I love the blurring of the pasta pouring out and the bleached out white contrasting with the pot. It really is a great picture. I hear you on the mac & cheese - it's fast and it's good every time. Sure, there is the home made, baked, fancy pants mac & cheese, but that's almost a different product than the orange stuff. Can't compare the two - each has its merits.

I don't know if you'll think this sounds good or uber-disgusting, but when I make boxed mac-n-cheese, if I want to make a bit more of a meal of it, I open up a can of chopped tomatoes (and add extra water if I need to), then boil the mac in the tomatoes and juice, then when I drain them and add the cheese sauce, I stir in a little chopped ham. I think it's yummy! Or good, since you're a man who wouldn't say yummy. :-)

I really like the photo!

Have you tried the kind that has the already prepared cheese sauce? SO much better than the powdered cheese :) We eat that a lot around here. Well... my kids and husband do. I usually don't have much. It is yummy though.

mass produced crap of marginal nutritional value always wins out over a home cooked meal after a long day at work! LOVE the photo!

Absolutely cool shot!

As for mac and cheese, I can be guilty from time to time and I don't even crunch big rocks into little ones.

I'm new to SPC, nice to know y'all!

There's never really a bad time for macaroni and cheese, but 7:48? Perfect. Best time ever for cheesy noodle eating. I hope you enjoyed it.

ok, i'm going to try something i haven't done in a while - respond to every comment!

h - you are! mac & cheese is good for kids! and thanks!

e (or should i say l) - i figured out that it was you. cool on the grocery store, do they have dr. pepper?

a - everyone loves m&c!

bj - you know, i don't think i've ever had the homemade version. i probably shouldn't, cause then i'd get spoiled.

p - i like that annie's all natural m&c (i think that's the one with the bunny). it doesn't fit my budget at the moment. and thanks!

m - i'll have to try the shrek or spiderman! and i shouldn't apologize either. i eat boxed mac & cheese!!!

van - that's actually a great idea. i think i'll use that!

ved - thanks! there's plenty of salad in my future.

amy - i love that - "the winter of my life". you're right! and it's amazing what bumping up the contrast will do to make my stove look clean. although actually i did end up cleaning it before this shot because in some of the early shots my stove was looking very grody. who says the internet is useless?

anna - thank you! you have no idea how many shots i took to get the effect i was looking for. i really had to time the pour!

deb - thanks! i'm not against adding stuff, i may have to try that!

georgia - i actually do prefer the one with the already mixed cheese better, but i'm trying to save money. also, for some reason the leftovers on that kind always freaks me out, i can never reheat it so that it tastes good. since i can't (and shouldn't) eat the whole box of that stuff there's always leftovers. i love it right after it's made, but the leftovers are gross. i guess because the powdered stuff is not that great to begin with, the leftovers stand up to punishment better!

gay - you're right, and thanks!

nikki - thank you, i like the '70s comment, that's something i hadn't considered.

k - thank you, and welcome!

c - i'm so glad you mentioned the clock. i actually moved the shot to the other side of the stove so i could get that in there. i just liked the way it looked! thanks!

whew. off to bed! zZz
