SPC - Environment 1
This is a photo of my hand about to pull a large weed in my yard. This time of year, the environment of my yard means a battle with weeds. Especially this year because it's already rained more here year-to-date than it did for the entire year in 2005. It's making the weeds grow like, well, weeds.
I love having a yard, but I wish we were allowed to have more environmentally-friendly ones. The "perfect" turf grass yard is an outdated paradigm, it wastes a lot of water and results in lots of people using harmful fertilizers to keep the yard looking nice. Unfortunately the pesky homeowners association even dictates what type of grass we're supposed to have! Maybe that will change someday.

Dictates what kind of grass? Ok I won't go into some Al G. rant. (ah not ali g, but maybe Al needs to market himself as an Ali g-I'm in a mood) Preaching to the choir.
I love this shot. What kind of weed is that?
I agree about the homeowners association...what!?! This shot is very cool--I am all organic here (which means I've weathered dandelion season and now am in clover-heaven). The rewards...
--D.--
pg - I believe it's a thistle. It would get 5 feet high if I left it alone!
lht - I would like to go more towards the organic lawn care regimen. Right now it's kind of a "no care" regimen!
is that really your hand inside that glove or is it a prop?
You'd probaby be better off getting a trowel or a shovel or maybe a back-hoe to dig that sucker out by it's roots. Then stomp on it, spit on it, and burn it. Sometimes I wonder if I killed all the weeds in my yard if I'd have anything green left at all! Cool shot, JC!
I agree with Jeremy - the green in our yard is all from weeds :(
the whole yard thing is one more aspect of home ownership that I love a lot more in theory. When our girl goes to college, we are so moving back to a city apartment where someone else shovels and mows and we put our garbage down a shoot!
My hand really is in there. Since I'm right-handed I ended up using the timer on the camera since I couldn't use my hand to press the shutter release. Funny, I didn't even think of doing it the easy way and just putting the glove there. But it's more authentic this way! :D
eh hem - well my yard is lush and green.. from clover. which I actually kind of like. But I don't think you're supposed to have it for your entire lawn.
I've just been using vinegar to kill our weeds. I'm really freakish with pesticides after Nathan was poisoned. And they told Nana that the only thing that tied people together with her type of cancer (aside from it being genetic) is that nearly all of the people who fell victim to it were gardeners.. people who used a lot of pesticides, etc.. Nana told me that and followed it up by "yeah, I never worried about using pesticides on our foods.. or having it around you girls."
???
And there's why I couldn't live someplace with a homeowner's association. Some of the stuff those groups come up with is just insane!
Cool shot! That's a mean-looking weed!
I guess the "no care" regimen is organic. We leave most of the weeds alone. Its too much of a pain. Nice yards are overrated.
Those "thistles" are such a pain! When I had my house, they were really a problem. You can't just pull them up, cause besides getting stuck, they just break off. Suckers!!!
I like your prop. Great shot!
Hang in there. A month isn't tooooooooo bad. It is so gonna be worth it. And I have to agree about the shows on tv. Horrible.....now that Dancing, Greys & Idol are over!
This is one of my favorites this week....really cool w/ the glove.
