A Pain In The Grass

Today my annual battle with Mother Nature began - I had to start mowing the lawn. It seems a bit early this year. It was actually the weeds that were becoming ridiculous, the grass hasn't started greening up yet. And not only did I have to start mowing, but I had to change the oil in the mower. Adding insult to injury, it took me 3 trips to various stores before I could find the proper oil.

It's kind of funny to think how when I was a little kid I wanted to start mowing the grass as soon as I could. It's what big people do! It's loud! Mom will be so proud! Now, it's just a beatdown. Especially when it starts getting really hot. On the bright side, I guess it kind of counts as exercise.

Here are some photos I took last week. I just liked the pink color of the clouds.

Can I enter a cranky vote against the retina-searing green background? Ouch.

I forget how much work goes into owning a home. Grass mowing can't be fun during a Texas summer. Although the cold beer as reward doesn't sound half bad...

Oops, sorry! I will return to funereal black tomorrow.

I have actually been surprised how much work is involved in home ownership. And my house was new when I bought it, so I bet it's even worse if you own an older home. Despite all that I still prefer it to apartment living.

I only like mowing the grass when it involves a riding mower :)

Back in black!! So I won't play Gore today. If you want me too we'll talk. Just think xeriscape. Eliminate or cut down on too much grass to mow. Trees near the driveway...sorry I won't start.
I like the puffy pink clouds. wouldn't it be funny to have cotton balls that were pink?

Ok-and is Seymour Butts a real person? This is a joke isn't it?

pg - I would love to have a xeriscape, I would be totally cool with rocks or native prairie grasses, etc. Howevah, the mainstream hasn't quite caught up to the concept. The stupid Homeowner's Association would go ballistic over anything except Bermuda grass. And I wouldn't care except they would soon levy fines, and if I refused to pay them they could get a lien on my house. So basically I don't have much choice what the yard looks like. It's a really crummy system, but if you buy a new house today it's unavoidable just about everywhere.

And Seymore Butts is another porn star.

Well that's a crum bum situation- telling you what to do. I guess they like the look of brown grass in the summer? At least you don't find bullets in the street or drug baggies. That's what HA are for I guess.

One day no one will have grass and we'll be telling our grandchildren about the days of mowing lawns. What's a lawn?(I'm sorry jc, I'm in a bad way today.)

I agree with B... I think you should invest in a riding lawnmower. Now THAT is fun.
