Help Me Get Moist
I seem to have a large percentage of female readers, so I need to turn to you all for advice. No, not on dating or women, I'm going to be one of those old people who nobody finds until 6 months after I've died. I want to start a facial moisturizing regimen, but I'm not sure how to start. I did some research, and the main thing that I'm confused about is the number of products needed. There are scrubs, toners, moisturizers, and maybe some other stuff that I don't even know about. Do I need all of this stuff?
I'm guessing that maybe an occasional scrub is in order to get rid of dead skin. Maybe I can just use a loofah? The more complicated that this process is, the less likely I will be to do it. Can I get by with just a moisturizer application after showering and maybe the occasional scrub? I believe my skin is combination dry skin. I turn to you, dear readers. And that means both of you!

oh lord. what a blog post title.
you don't need all those products. i suggest a scrub and a moisturizer. my favorite products are clinique, though i'm using some benefit products now that i really like.
clinique has product line for men. i'm not too familiar with it though. clinique is fragrance-free, hypo-allergenic (i think) and possibly not tested on animals. but i may be mistaken.
investigate that line though. don't let the ladies at the counter talk you into lots of product you don't need. if there isn't an exfoliater in the men's line, there are two in the women's that i've used and like.
can't wait to read your report!
I once read somewhere that the most important product to buy for the facial area is a moisturize...and to spring for a good one since thats the only product that actually stays on your face for more that just a few seconds. One with an SPF of 25 or more is recommended...I like aveno products or ucerine...both very gentle....as far as cleansing...I go for noxema, love the tingle afterwards. Simplicity is the name of my game...I like stuff I can get at one-stop-shop places cuz I rarely go to malls anymore...
Neutrogena is always good. My husband uses the moisturizer with SPF 15 in it and washes his face with Moisturel sensitive skin cleanser (which I like better than Cetaphil) although it's hard to find. It's not a cleanser/scrubber, it's clear but I love it and you can use it on your body as well.
I like the daily pore cleanser by Clean and Clear, its gritty and it makes me feel like my skin has been scrubbed clean/exfoliation.
Agreed though, that you shouldn't let anyone talk you into anything. Those department store ladies love a man walking in that doesn't know anything. Check out the Clinque stuff too, I use a lot of their stuff and have never gone wrong there.
JC - I'm impressed with your questions. And good ones, I might add. If you went to a dermatologist, he/she would tell you to use Dove soap on your face. And moisturizers with SPF. And lets not forget...stay out of the sun! Good luck!
I get compliments nearly every day on how beautiful my skin is. Know what my beauty secret is? Dove facial cleansing cloths! That's all. They do a terrific job of removing my makeup and cleaning the pores, and they make my skin silky smooth. I'm not sure if they do as great a job for everyone else, but they work well for me! And the best part - low maintenance! ;)
And just for the record, the girl who does end up finding you (and hopefully BEFORE you die) is going to be a lucky gal indeed! You're a great catch. If I were single, watch out! ;)
Aside from basic cleaning, the one gotta-have as far as I'm concerned is moisturizer with sunscreen. Never too late to guard against not only dry skin, but also wrinkles and skin cancer. I use Oil of Olay with SPF 30. (I'm reeeeally pale-skinned, so I go for the strong stuff!)
1) Go to a Kiehl's counter.
2) Do what they tell you.
Seriously. I heart Kiehl's, and so do the only guys I know who use a skincare regimen. You don't need a scrub on a daily basis. Like cookies, it's a sometimes product (quick Sesame Street paraphrase). You do need a cleanser and a moisturizer with sunscreen. Toner is arguable. I'm not sure where you come from, so let me just point out that in Dallas, there's a Kiehl's store in Highland Park Village, and a counter at the Neimans at NorthPark - maybe a couple of other ones in other stores. There's also a men's skincare store in the West Village, but frankly it gives me hives to go down there.
